Bullet Journal

April 2020 Bullet Journal Setup

I’ve been looking forward to this month’s setup since last year. I actually have a line up of different themes for my bullet journal before the year started. And I think this one is something traditional in terms of the Chinese culture.

I spent a quarter of my life living in a typical Chinese household with my grandmother, uncles and cousins. My grandmother was born in China and then migrated to the Philippines. I don’t know much of the history, but there were a lot of Chinese stuff in the house. A major thing was her own altar with numerous gods and deities figurines in different sizes, incense and other things.

Another thing I remember having/seeing are the blue tiles with intricate patterns. And that’s my theme for the month. 😊 Now, I’m using clear stamps to make the tile patterns in my journal, so the pattern itself may not be typically used in Chinese textile. However, this greatly reminds me of that time in my life.

I was a bit apprehensive about doing this theme because I saw similar themed journals on Pinterest while doing some research. But I know my setups will be very different from those. 😉 I hope you’ll like what I’ve done for my weekly bullet journal setups.

COVER PAGE
For the cover page, I just filled the page with one of the tile patterns and used the VersaCraft Ultramarine ink to create the Chinese style vibe. 🤩 Then I used gold foiled stickers for the month name. This is the same stickers I used for my 2020 Cover Page.

CALENDAR
I didn’t want to stamp this page, so I used a tile-patterned washi tape to cover all the areas surrounding the calendar. I think this is closer to a Chinese style tile pattern and I’m really happy how this turned out. Moreover, I used Tombow Dual Brush Pen #451 to highlight where the dates are, Everyday Explorers Dated Stamp Set for the dates, and Stabilo point88 Fineliner #41 to outline the calendar.

WEEK 1 (April 1 – 5)
Since there are only 5 days for this week, I decided to make separate boxes for my daily task list and the lower half is blank for some journaling. I stamped a row of a different tile pattern using Tombow Dual Brush Pen #443 as the ink on the top and bottom parts of the page. I used the same brush pen to ink all the other elements on this page plus a Numeric wood-mounted rubber stamp and Tokyo Finds Metallic Marker as the ink for the dates and Everyday Explorers Calendar Days Stamp Set for the days of the week. To outline the boxes, I used Stabilo point88 Fineliner #57. I really wanted to match the colors as much as possible and this is the closest I could find.

WEEK 2 (April 6 – 12)
This week is an exciting one! Since I’m already doing tiles, why not make the page look like tiles on a wall, too! I divided the page into 5 columns and 4 rows leaving “cutoff” parts on all sides to create the wall tiles look. I then stamped every other box with the tile stamp pattern leaving me with just space for daily task lists, a habit tracker, the monthly calendar and a blank box for something else. I used Tombow Dual Brush Pen #526 as the ink for this page and Stabilo point88 Fineliner #32 for the grid lines.

WEEK 3 (April 13 – 19)
I wanted to do something very different from what I’ve already done in the past 2 weeks and what I’ve seen others do.  So I created a diamond pattern out of all the tile stamps I have and all the blue markers I liked.  I cut off the unused areas on this page leaving a blank backdrop for my weekly.  I also stamped a few tiles on the corners to complete this week.  I think this page created a more beautiful touch to this month’s theme.  I appreciate the patterns and colors more when they’re together in one page. Tombow Dual Brush Pens used #443, 452, 403, 526, 476, 407, 373.

WEEK 4 (April 20 – 26)
Toning it down this week, I stamped half of each page with a tile pattern leaving me space in the middle for my daily task lists.  Used Faber Castell Blue Brush Pen as the ink for this page and Stabilo point88 Fineliner #22 for the boxes.

WEEK 5 (April 27 – 30)
And for the last week of April, I decided to use a vertical layout so I’ll have a little space to journal as well. Though this reminds me of a room divided screen for some reason! I used Tombow Dual Brush Pen #403 as the ink for this page and Stabilo point88 Fineliner #13 for the boxes.

This is probably my favorite theme that I’ve made this year. I really enjoyed making each page as unique as I can and the blues calms me down especially in times like now. I hope everyone stays safe and follow directives so we can avoid further spreading of the virus. 😉

XOXO, Lesley ❤️
