I hated tea. Being Chinese, that was weird. I never drank the teas served in Chinese restaurants. Maybe I was turned off by one that was bitter so I shut it out completely. I know each restaurant serves a different kind, but I was traumatized!
However, I got into tea drinking 8 months ago – basically to cut down my caffeine (and sugar) consumption as I have given up Frappuccinos altogether. I am not a hot coffee drinker nor a soda drinker so Frappuccinos were my source of caffeine when needed. I have only tried Twinings’ Jasmine Green Tea and I think it’s time to mix things up!
Twinings of London Tea: English Breakfast and Pure White Tea
I initially just got the English Breakfast off the shelf, but the sales person told me if I buy any two flavors of tea, I’d get a free canister. I wasn’t really planning on buying more, but I just fell in love with the canister as soon as I saw it! [What do you think?] So for more variety, I got the Pure White Tea.
I have been having a sneeze fest in the past 30 minutes (ironically while writing this part of the entry) and I just had the urge of trying out the Pure White Tea in the hopes that the tea would somehow relieve my stuffy nose. Anyway, when at home, I drink my tea as is, without honey, sugar or milk. This one, however, could use a little honey or sugar! A little hint of “tea”, but that’s about it – and this costed me more!
I just had to do some research after being sort of disappointed by this flavor! Here’s an excerpt from whiteteaguide.com.
…Its supreme power is in preventing disease and disorder.
White tea protects against cancer, heart disease, and stroke, the leading causes of death in the industrial world, as well as numerous other conditions. It eases the symptoms of illness and promotes recovery. White tea strengthens the circulatory and immune systems as well as bones and teeth, and builds healthy skin.
So while it barely has any taste, it has a lot of health benefits, which is why it costs more than the other kinds of tea (at least ones that I have bought). I am changing my perspective right about…. now – haha!
And who hasn’t tried English Breakfast Tea?! This was made (more) popular by Anastasia Steele in 50 Shades of Grey ‘coz it’s her favorite tea flavor! English Breakfast is my go-to flavor when I’m in a coffee/tea house. It has a strong taste and it’s got that “kick” for when I am sleepy! I think it tastes better with a little sugar though.
